What is Stress?
Stress is our body's natural reaction to life's challenges. Whether it’s deadlines at work, a busy schedule, or an argument with a loved one, stress happens when we face things that make us feel pressured or uncomfortable.
Think of it like this: it’s your brain saying, “Hey, there’s a lot going on right now!”
💼 Example: You’ve got a big project due at work, and the pressure’s on.
🗣 Example: You’re in an argument with a friend, and it’s weighing on you.
Stress is normal! But if it’s constant, it can wear you down.
What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a little different. It’s that nervous, uneasy feeling that comes up when we think something bad might happen – even if there’s no actual reason for us to be worried. It’s like your brain is imagining a threat, even if one isn’t there.
🧐 Example: Worrying about what might happen in the future.
😰 Example: Feeling anxious about going to a party, even when you’ve been there a million times before.
Anxiety can hang around longer than stress, and sometimes it feels like it’s taking over.
So, What’s the Difference?
Stress usually has an obvious cause, like a big presentation or a difficult situation.
Anxiety can show up without any clear reason and often feels like a heavy weight on your mind.
Stress is external – it’s triggered by something outside of you. Anxiety is internal – it comes from your mind and can be triggered by thoughts or worries.
Mixed-Up Symptoms: Stress vs. Anxiety
Here’s where it gets tricky: Stress and anxiety can have very similar physical symptoms, like a racing heart, sweating, and tension. This is why many people get them confused!
But while the symptoms may overlap, the root causes are different – and so are the ways to cope. The key is understanding the difference so you can address what’s really going on.
The biggest difference?✨ Stress is temporary, while anxiety can stick around longer if not addressed.
